FIREPLACE INSTALLATION
Heating
We install new solid fuel fires and replace old ones. Our dedicated team of installers has installed hundreds of fireplaces throughout Christchurch and Canterbury, in both new properties being built and existing homes.
YOUR FIREPLACE FLUE GOES THROUGH THE ROOF, SO LET US MAKE SURE IT’S INSTALLED SAFELY.
DCM Roofing’s solid fuel burner heating services include new installations, upgrades, repairs, maintenance, and safety checks. We can advise you on the best position for the solid fuel burner and we’ll walk you through the selection and installation process.
When it comes to heating for your home, we’ll work with your chosen provider or help you find the fire that’s just right for you. We’re independent – our focus is solely on providing you with the best heating solution, not promoting one chosen product over another.
DCM Roofing’s experienced roofers play an important part in the installation process. They make sure the roof and chimney connect properly so that the roof remains watertight. We can also supply the scaffolding required for the job.
If required, we’ll take care of council consents. We can arrange for the retailer to deliver the fire to your home, for us to install on a convenient, pre-arranged date. Our aim is to make the whole process stress-free and easy as possible.
We also know that all solid fuel fires need regular servicing. Creosote and soot can build up in the flue over time and potentially pose a danger. If your solid fuel burner hasn’t been checked out in the last year, give us a call.
HEAT WATER
HAVE YOU CONSIDERED A WETBACK?
If you are installing a new solid fuel heater (or replacing your existing) have you considered a wetback system? It’s a series of pipes that connect the firebox to your hot water cylinder. The fire not only heats the house but also heats your water, which is circulated to the cylinder, reducing your spending on electricity. We can advise if a wetback is right for you.
CHIMNEY CLEANING
CARING FOR YOUR FIREBOX AND FLUE
There’s nothing worse than trying to get your fire roaring on a bitter wintery day and it just won’t blaze. Gradual build-up of soot impacts the performance of your fireplace, restricting the proper venting of the firebox. Plus, in spring and summer, birdies, bugs and rodents can smuggle in debris. Let us clean everything out for you, hassle-free and without mess.
Expert installation
Installing a flue through a ceiling cavity and roof is not worth ‘having a crack at’ yourself.
Council rules
Which solid fuel burners can you install in which parts of Canterbury? We know the rules.
Positioning
We’ve installed so many solid fuel burners we know the best spot in your home for one.
Frequently Asked Questions
WHY ARE YOU A MEMBER OF N.Z.H.H.A?
Because we’re professionals. The Home Heating Association promotes high quality retail and installation services, and that’s a good thing.
WHAT DOES A NEW SOLID FUEL BURNER COST?
Solid fuel burners range in price from $1,00 to over $5,000. On top of that are consent and installation costs of several hundred more.
CAN I MOUNT MY TV ABOVE THE FIREPLACE?
Heat and electronics don’t mix so, if you want your television to work for the whole season of Shortland Street, the answer is No.
WHAT IS THE BEST WOOD TO BURN IN MY FIRE?
Depends on what’s available, how hot it burns, and how quickly it burns. For instance, eucalyptus is plentiful, burns hot and burns slow.
WHY DOES THE GLASS ON MY FIREPLACE GO BLACK?
Inefficient combustion. It could be how you’re controlling the fire, or the fuel used, the air supply, even the weather conditions.
DO YOU EVER SING ‘CHIM CHIM CHER-EE’?
Only during our annual Mary Poppins movie marathon. Even then, we lip-sync.
We are very happy with the service provided by your staff. They were friendly, helpful and did a great job cleaning up after the job was finished.
Regards, Glenda
